Paint Scrapers
Tools that are designed for the specific task of removing color from different surfaces are called paint scrapers. Some of these tools are commonly referred to as putty knives. However, these knives should not be used to apply putty to any surface. The application of putty with this tool damages the sharpness of the blade. The blade cuts the coat of paint to allow easy removal. If the blade is dull, the tool will skip over the coat.

Damaged blades make it harder and more time consuming to remove old coats of color from any surface. Scraping coloring off a surface can become a frustrating task if the tool is not sharp. Therefore, a great deal of care should be afforded these tools. The blades should be kept clean and sharp after each use. If the blade becomes dull, it should be sharpened just as any knife is sharpened.
